About End Of Quote
The verified quote record
Our mission
End Of Quote exists because quotes matter — and misquotes matter more. A single sentence, ripped from its context and shared without a source, can misrepresent a person, distort a debate, and spread across the internet before a correction can follow.
Our goal is simple: build a reliable, neutral, searchable record of what public figures have actually said, when they said it, and what was happening around it. We are not a fact-checking organisation. We don't tell you what to think about a quote. We give you the quote, the source, and enough context to form your own view.
Neutrality and balance
End Of Quote is politically neutral and ideologically uncommitted. We do not select quotes to support a narrative. We include quotes from public figures across the political spectrum, from business, culture, science, and public life.
Our context is factual. Where context is contested, we note the dispute. We apply the same scrutiny to a quote from any public figure regardless of our personal views of them.
If you believe a quote on this site is presented in a biased way, we want to hear from you.
What we cover — and what we don't
End Of Quote covers public figures making public statements. This means heads of state, elected officials, senior executives, public intellectuals, and others who have voluntarily entered public life.
We do not record or publish private communications. We do not cover statements made in private contexts that were not intended for public consumption. We do not cover private individuals.
Status definitions
- Verified The quote is confirmed by primary source evidence (video, audio, official transcript, or archived original). The verbatim text is accurate.
- Disputed The quote is attributed but the accuracy, attribution, or context is contested by credible sources. We include our reasoning.
- Retracted The quote has been publicly retracted or disavowed by the speaker, or is demonstrably fabricated. We keep the record to document the retraction.
Fair use and archival disclaimer
End Of Quote is an educational and archival resource. Quotes are reproduced for the purposes of commentary, education, and public record. Video embeds use youtube-nocookie.com and are used under fair use doctrine for educational and commentary purposes. Tweet screenshots are retained as archival evidence of public statements.
This site does not monetise the content of the statements it records. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to any of the individuals or organisations whose quotes appear here.
Right of reply
If you are a public figure whose quote appears on this site, or a representative acting on their behalf, and you believe the context, status, or framing of a quote is inaccurate, you may request a right of reply.
We will review the request within 14 days. If we agree with your objection, we will correct the record and note the correction. If we do not agree, we will note that a right of reply was requested and explain our reasoning.
